New direction

Rick and I have been in our little piece of heaven for almost 8 years now. It's the longest I've ever stayed put in the one place, I've never lived in a house longer than 5 years. I've been fearful that I've become restless, anxious and wanting to break free. I don't know if I'll ever really escape that feeling. As the years progress, I know I've surrounded myself with unwanted clutter, burying my emotions and fears with material things, so I don't have to deal with the deeper issues that lie just below the surface.

We have recently decided to purchase an large, old caravan that has had the guts of it removed and ready to be renovated. We have a small 3mx3m shed ready to put up as an extension for an outdoor bathroom, god help me during the winter months, hahahaha. We will be creating an outdoor kitchen on the deck of the caravan. We're downsizing our life to be able to live it larger and with more vigour.

We've never had a big house, rented or owned. I'm not a fan of having a big house, so much more to clean and the echoes would haunt me, as I would be alone for most of the day, just myself and my dogs. Moving from a two bedroom little cottage, to a tiny house/caravan is going to be hard; however the ability to down size our lives to something more manageable and less cluttered and materialistic, that would be more heavenly than what we have now.

I've been thinking about how all the shoes I used to wear to work when I worked in a call centre have just been wasted as they have just sat in wardrobes, unused and disintegrating from lack of use. The shoes I do wear aren't the expensive $180 shoes that are not comfortable or look pretty but are impractical. I have clothes that I have worn once, they were gorgeous on, but in the scheme of things there were no places we frequented that would require me to wear an after 5 dress.

I have underwear drawers that have bras that I hate, yet hold on to them just in case; in my head I always ask myself, "What? Just in case you stop hating them and they become comfortable?" Yup! I keep useless underwear.

I figured it's time to get real with our lives, we're not here forever and there's no real point accumulating things that will just bury us under debt and waste.

I'm planning on donating what I can to charity shops and offering them on facebook grops as a way to give back to people. We'll sell some pieces of furniture or gadgetry, in order to fund the transformation of the caravan. We'll reuse, mend, transform some clothing into floor rugs, cleaning rags etc. in order to save some finances being spent on items that can easily be created at home.

The most important thing for us is to reduce our waste.

At the moment we're making a point of going through our freezers and not buying copious amounts of food that will spoil or be forgotten. We're making our left overs that have been frozen or close to the expiry date into dog food; I swear they've never eaten this well. We want our food to be more nourishing, not just a quick and fast solution to the I'm hungry what's to eat banter that has been our lives in the last 8 years.

With this caravan we're downsizing our lives and hopefully creating something more personal and meaningful by creating a vegetable and herb garden near the caravan. We're hoping to use our grey water as underground irrigation for the vegetable garden and the fruit trees. We'd like to also use our vegetable scraps for compost and regrow vegetables and herbs from the off cuts of shallots, celery, silver-beet, coriander. Some recipes call for just one stick of celery and I abhor the idea of having to buy a whole celery bunch just to utilise one stick, so wasteful, and the celery never stays fresh in the fridge like it would if it was still in the garden thriving.

Our lives have become so cluttered, we don't know to function effectively within our own home. We joke about lost items within the spare room, un-affectionately named the cat room, as that room has become our dumping ground from what we haven't used or weren't using at the time. This in turn creates more clutter as we assume we don't have a piece of kitchenalia or manchester and purchase another one to satisfy our wants only to rediscover that item a few months later when we dare enter that cat room.

So here's to decluttering our lives and regaining a new sense of focus where it's not just us who will benefit from the change.

Weekend off

about 6 weeks ago, Rick and I took time off. We felt that the markets were not favourable to us and that we were better off taking the time to buy some stock and create some beautiful pieces of jewellery that we could share at the next market. This ended up being something we really needed to do for each other and also to hang out with our family.

This weekend we had decided we needed another time out. Our house work has. Even neglected, our gardens are in desperate need of attention. So we have a weekend off, woohoo is normally a respectable sentiment to follow such a decision; however last night we were informed by one of our suppliers that they were no long stocking the full range of products that we had come accustomed in ordering from them. PANIC!

Creates his low end stock from these beads, as it's easier to wrap and not so time consuming and he can offer them at a much lower price. Now we're panic buying in order to get stock at a reasonable price and being able to offer our customers the same quality work at the best price.

Our aim has always been to offer quality at a reasonable price, pieces sourced from a variety of suppliers in order to pass on the savings. Now I'm. It sure whether can continue doing so with our low prices. The challenge is now directed at us to find now suppliers who can offer the value we want for the products we offer our customers.

Our weekend off has become somewhat of a research weekend.

Even though we'll be driving round looking for a new supplier or online contacting people, and yes it's technically still work, it still feels a little bit weird not to do a market. We're starting the weekend off by panic buying all our suppliers beads that we can get for our money and then addressing the state of our house and make head ways on our festive plans, then hopefully find a new supplier.

Wish us luck guys!

Feedback!

We've been forced, somewhat like a bird leaving the nest for the first time, back into attending markets and supporting ourselves this way. We had given up, two years previous, on the market life as we had grown tired, and health and heat were not complementary to each other. It was the week after we had just spent a few days camping down at our favourite beach side campsite that we received the news that our lives maybe altered due to jealousy and denial of ones abilities and the others lack there of.

We drove around for so long, north to unseen places we'd both spoken of yet hadn't time to visited; south, to places we felt we're home. We didn't know it at the time but our driving was us searching for clarity, some answers as to why it was happening to us, not really asking if it was happening to others. We talked a lot during these long drives. We verbally explored all our options, we released our anger on numerous occasions and we also looked forward to more time together.

The first market we attended was a successful on a few levels, monetary was not one of them. By the time costs were added up, fees paid etc, we were only in front about $100 we had spent close to $200 in fees, accommodation, petrol, stock etc. however, there was a valuable lesson we were learning. Evolve.

This was not just in the spiritual sense, the physical sense. It was with what we were creating. Stagnation in any form, in any circumstance was not an effective tool for growth.

We had returned to the market scene with some new stock, but mostly old. We were carefully listening to what customers had to say, the praise and the negative. We knew what direction to head and why.

With each event we attended our understanding expanded, our need to create grew. We were evolving.

After a few weeks we thought we were cruising by at a steady pace, boy were we wrong. One weekends worth of markets had wiped out all our reserves of cash. The running costs for that weekend had surpassed the costs of what we had taken in. Not just the finances but energetically we were at a low, mentally we were spent.

The last market for that weekend was the worst experience in market life we had had up until then. It was wet and miserable, we hadn't rested much from the market the night before and we had only intended on saying hello to the attendees. We had made just our site fees and anything else. Which normally would have been OK, however we were told that we were only welcome to attend the next market with less than 1/3 of our stock. Rick was not happy, I was too tired to comment.

Needless to say we haven't and are not intending on going to that market again.

There have been only a couple of negative comments that have crossed the lips of those people who have viewed our stall. I don't believe they were being malicious, more trying to keep to their own structured views of how their market should run, as well as their own experiences with similar but not the same products.

I find hilarity in some of these customers, or passer by-ers comments. One lady told Rick his wire work were made in sweat shops in Mexico and that it wasn't silver or gold or brass. She insisted she had seen his work at other markets, sold by other stall holders. At this point Rick was getting a little hot under the collar by this time. He replied, as calmly as he does. He politely as possible, told her that those jewellery pieces that she had assumed were mass produced were hand made, and he would know as he made those pieces. The lady had no reply and walked off in a huff.

At another market one lady came over, quiet, moving slowly, almost motionless, carefully perusing our crystals. And then she ranted about her experience, reprimanding us about our display, the various pieces we used or didn't use or didn't have proper explanations for it. Suffice to say she carried on, did purchase anything and totally changed the vibe at our stall. We didn't sell anything else after she left.

We've learnt that the vibe within our small space makes a lot of difference when it comes to people being attracted to our stock and wanting to purchase things for us. Our energy, the smiles on our faces, the mood we exudes, all helps. Most of all, don't let one narrow mind taint the whole day.

A bit of grit!

I've been getting dirty! My fingers nails are in need of being trimmed as they willing hold on to all the dirt possible, my clothes are filthy. My feet look like I've been trekking some wild jungles. I've been gardening!

The last few weeks has reawakened my passion for all things dirty, green, edible and pretties! I love getting in the dirt and pulling out the weeds, getting rid of this pesky wild asparagus that the previous owners planted. It has gone feral and incredibly hard to get rid of. In some areas it has become a noxious weed. I'm anti-asparagus plant, but the eating ones from the shops I'm happy to accept. I know farmers have the skills to keep it under control, unlike myself.

So the point....what's this got to do with spirituality? A lot! When you have a resurgence of passion for something you used to enjoy, it's like a rebirth of your mind. My body has been all achy, my hands are sore from yankinng on stubborn weeds, but at the end of the day I feel like I've achieved more than I did the previous day.

There's a sense of instant gratification, and slow burn at the same time. You prepare your garden bed then put in your plants, the initial instant gratification puts a smile on your face, then the plants take hold and mature and you're even more happy. There's a sense of oneness when you've allowed natural to infiltrate your being.

Now I've created a small pocket of change, I'm hoping it will forever continue. I have so many ideas that I would like to see come true. Start something today that you will be happy with and if you're not happy, just start again.

Trends.

(*Disclaimer: I am have not received training, nor do I claim to be an expert in any field. These are my opinions for the sake of entertainment value. All medical concerns need to be addressed by a medical professional.)

There's been a big push lately to follow "healthy" trends created by cancer survivors, medical miracles, celebrity chefs, healthy guru's, most have little or no valid qualifications to back up their theories of healthy eating, according to their diet preferences. I am not one to boast about knowing what is good for me and following what the doctor has advised me to do. I do know the basics of what makes me feel ill, what makes me feel good, what I should be eating, what I shouldn't be eating, I know about portion control, it's the control part I don't like, I know about healthy cooking, all in theory! That doesn't make me an expert, know it all, I should right a book and tell everyone that it's the way to go! Far from it.

In reality I am the worst candidate for this. But in the light of the Belle Gibson story breaking (http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/diet-and-fitness/belle-gibson-and-the-whole-pantry-app-lessons-from-a-liar-20150319-1m25dh.html ) as well as the wake of boisterous rejection of Pete Evans paleo baby book ( http://www.smh.com.au/national/pete-evans-paleo-book-for-babies-dumped-20150316-1m0805.html), I think something needs to be said about societies need to have a savior. Yes it helps to have someone to inspire us to a healthy way of living. There are some people that take this obsession way to far.

Eating disorders cover a variety of body image related diseases. Having suffered from bulimia and having had recent lapses, it's a behavior that is hard to shift away from. I am self diagnosed with bulimia, but I didn't need a doctor to tell me that it wasn't right to be throwing up your meals after binge eating. Vanity slowly helped me stop this destructive behaviour, as I read that stomach acids have a good habit of destroying the enamel in your teeth and can cause them to rot. So I thought I love my smile more than being sick, so I slowly gave it up, took a few years to do so. But my teeth haven't escaped unharmed.

I was always a bigger girl, or so I was told by my family; however looking back at photos I don't believe I was anywhere near the size I was told I was. I was told if I only lost a little bit of weight, boys would like me, I could fit into nicer clothes ( I was shamed into wearing clothes for men as I didn't think womens clothes would be flattering on me). It was just my immediate family, it was also my extended family. I would be bribed by my cousin who promised to give me $50, when I was in my early teens, if I was able to lose 10kg.

When I was 19 I lost 30kg, not from proper dieting, but mostly from my bulimic behaviour and a new medication a specialist gave me, but it was more so from the grief induced bulimia. I didn't want to deal with what was happening in my life and it felt like I could control my life by controlling what stayed in my body. It only took 3-6 months to lose the weight, I was happy, I was smaller than I had ever thought I could be.

The weight came back within 2 years.

Now I see people I know who have the want for a healthier lifestyle pushing themselves and their bodies beyond what they are capable of. There are girls who are obsessed with the super lean, clean eating lifestyle that their bodies no longer resemble female figures.

We are so ready to jump on trends that have been promoted on social media believing the hype. These people end up making their fortunes from misguided followers, who wait with bated breath for their next miracle cure.

The answer is hardly ever external, and no I'm not just advocating the spiritual mantra of "Look within!" here. If there is to be a permanent change, the answer often lies in a change in perception, yea, looking within, but on more than one level. You need to see if there are any underlying mental disorders, eating disorders, any physical reasons why weight refuses to be put on or come off, if there are any hang ups that causes you to come to a screeching halt every time you achieve some sort of milestone. Always seek professional help! Go to a GP, contact a dietitian, a nutritionist, a naturopath, acupuncturist. Seek help from those who have been trained to help you.

And if all that fails! LOVE YOURSELF AS YOU ARE! If you are overweight but have no medical issues that have been caused by your weight, then love yourself and forget what the world thinks. Your body is not a trend!

Chasing the dragon.

Lately my tendency for going through a depressive phase has definitely ramped up. The house is a mess, I haven't felt very creative with my jewelry making, I don't really want to write in my diary, I'm not in the mood to take photos of my jewelry or creative work, the list goes on. My depression is usually triggered, this time of year, by the anniversary of the loss of my first boyfriend, which, honestly I am quite over, just the my body remembers, not every year, what I went through. There are now a few death anniversaries that are around the same date.

When I do relive these feelings, it's almost like a sense of time travel. The period in my life, which I still believe to be quite amazing and important, late teens early twenties, was so poignant that I chase that dragon whenever the feeling comes.

Several factors play into my dragon chasing. The theme music for this period was anything Sarah Mclachlan, Googoo Dolls, Six Pence None the Richer related. The movie that reflected my moods were Bed of Roses with Christian Slater, Practical Magic. The television series that would epitomize what I was going through would definitely be Buffy; the vampire slayer.

When all of these fall into place, I experience a sense of euphoria. I can almost feel, smell the late 1990's. I can capture small glimpses of what it was like, how I felt like, what emotions I went through during this time of my life.

It wasn't all boohoo, my heart was broken. It was also when I discovered new adventures, got my first tattoo, traveled to a city bigger than Brisbane, by myself and a city that I hadn't visited. I met new people, I learnt to use the internet for the first time. I allowed myself to experience a little bit of freedom from my friends.

I still remember so many of those days when I laughed so hard, I cried so much, and loved endlessly.

Sometimes the dragon is hard to catch, but other nights it's easier than breathing.

More often than not these trips to the past only brings tears of the pain that I went through. But lately it's been more the good trips of laughter, love and friends.

I allow myself to experience these moments. They help connect me to the past, so I can appreciate what I have gone through and what I am capable of overcoming.

My dragons of the present feel similar to my travels of the past, but now I get to enjoy these trips with my husband. He is there to see me smile when we're driving through the mountains and I'm in a
meditative or trance like state and my whole being is vibrating with such a high frequency that not smiling is impossible and laughter is just one tooth grin away.

Understand what you have gone through, allow yourself to feel what you need to feel.

Phishing.

Please be careful for those of you that enter free reading giveaways that ask you for personal information; date of birth, place of birth, full name etc. These private pieces of information can be used to hack your accounts as well as steal you identity and can cause financial ruin.

I've noticed that there are a few spiritual groups that have "readers" announce free readings, however you must provide personal information to be given your free reading. What you need to be aware of is that there are scammers who will collect information from you through these means.

Free readings are great, but the possiblity of having your money taken from you is just too great. Be careful!
